The Value of Body Language in Public Speaking Posted By : The Voice Lady

Standing perfectly still, rigid, or immobile during a presentation (or even a speech where you are somewhat limited by the presence of a lectern) says one thing to your audience. Whatever your purpose in speaking, be it a requirement for a presentation skills class, an order from above in your company, your introduction at a chamber event or networking club, or perhaps your desire to become a professional speaker, if you do not move during your delivery your audience will. Good public speaking means that you captivate your audience. The Voice Lady Nancy Daniels offers private, corporate and group workshops in voice and presentation skills as well as Voicing It!

Interrotron Errol Morris Teleprompter

by Bill Milling

Interrotron Prompters hit NY Just when you thought the world is overloaded with useless gadgets comes a device that makes so much sense you wonder why nobody thought of it before. We just came across a new way to use teleprompters that makes for far better on camera interviews. and best selling author Videographer & director Errol Morris has devised a teleprompter-like setup in conducting interviews which he calls the "Interrotron." .The piece of equipment is rigged on the lens often a film camera); however, rather than displaying a written script, it is used to display the image captured by a video camera focused on the interviewer who is positioned nearby.

Consequently, the interview subject can look directly into the lens of the camera to observe the questioners face while answering rather than off in some other direction .

The camera focused on Morris can also be arranged with a prompter displaying the subject (using the video tap output if a film camera is used on the subject). Thus, the two people are able to perform a simulated but real looking ordinary conversation for the event . The usefulness of this gadget is to allow the interviewer and interviewee to converse while looking right into the lens of the camera. Before the creation of the Interrotron both people in the conversation had to look into a unblinking camera lens rather than into the face of the actor in the interview

No matter if the interviewer stood right next to the camera tripod, the person in front of the camera almost always seemed to be looking the wrong way .

Morriss creation is now an industry standard prompter type found on film interview locations

Almost all top level green screen stages have a least two Interritrons . In New York City The American Movie Company at 212-952-1800 (www.AmericanMovieCo.com) and Teleprompter-New York.com and Production Central , Oraculum Pictures and Ventura Productions all have these useful devices .

Our conclusion is that we love this gadget.

(public speaking) When Others Can't Hear You, Your Message Is Lost Posted By : The Voice Lady

Clearly, if you are below a Volume Level 1, you need to learn to increase your volume to a natural, normal level of sound. Your inner ear is very comfortable with the volume with which you have been speaking during your lifetime; and, learning what is the correct level of sound necessary in various situations takes practice. An exercise that can help you learn how to increase your volume naturally and comfortably is to record someone else's voice from the TV, for example, by means of an external microphone. When you do this, make sure the volume level from the TV is a comfortable listening level and then make a brief recording. If you were successful, then start using that volume level every time you open your mouth to speak and make it a habit. You have a voice; therefore, it is your responsibility to speak with enough volume so that people no longer ask you to repeat yourself.
