0% Interest Rate Credit Cards - Are They Really That Good?

by Joseph Archibald

Before making a choice as to which type of credit card is best for your needs you would assess your current situation and future requirements and then match up the right "offer" to this. Its no different where the range of 0% interest credit cards are concerned.

Card companies offer 0% interest credit cards to entice new customers, either from other credit card companies or those that are new into the credit arena. After all, the thought of having a 0% interest credit card is rather nice, don't you agree?

But what if, as statistics do actually show happens very regularly, you are to go beyond the interest free period and you still have an unpaid balance. What happens then? Often you will be hit with high or very high interest rates so all the benefits of the interest free period are quickly lost.

With this in mind then, firstly it makes very good sense to make comparisons of what is available to you. How long is the interest free period? What are the interest rates after the zero interest rate finishes? What other fees are or could be involved?

If you are going to transfer a balance from another card then do make sure that if there is a fee involved
that the fee does not wipe out all of the benefits of the interest free period. It's a wise move to transfer only the amount you can pay off before the interest free period expires, unless the new card has a lower interest rate than the previous card anyhow.

But, what we, the consumer need to do, is to use them wisely. Do keep in mind the interest rates will go up, and probably go up quite high in comparison to other cards on the market. Do also keep in mind that the fees could be high for breaking some basic rules, such as going over your credit limit.

Find out about the terms and conditions in the first place and then make sure to stick within the rules. Take good care of your card spending and your card will be a large help to you in return.
