5 Things To Stay Away from While Delivering Best Man Speeches

Honor and responsibility are the main things about being chosen as best man. It's the biggest day for the groom and as best man, it's your task to keep it that way by not mentioning any of the taboo subjects in your best man speech.

There aren't really any hard, pat rules for the best man speech but there is an understanding about what you should include in your speech. There is etiquette for best man speeches but the ones below aren't in the book. After all, the wedding does cost a lot with many months of preparation, you don't really want to ruin it for the bride and the groom. Plus, you want your speech to be remembered and appreciated by everyone at the wedding. So use this set of unspoken rules when writing your best man speeches.

Don't let alcohol take you over - it's hard to make a speech in front of many people if you're not a public or professional speaker but alcohol makes nervousness and fear even worse. So if you need courage just one drink is fine to calm you down. More will only intoxicate you and make you forget your speech not to mention slurring your words.

Ex's are out - it's the worst thing you can do is mention either the bride or grooms ex girlfriends or boyfriends. It's just crude and ill mannered to talk about them. The guests, the parents and the bride and groom won't think it's funny. Plus, it's not as funny as you think it is.

Don't mention anything that went on at the bachelor's party - you never know what the groom told the bride about what he did at his stag party. It should always remain a secret. Although, some things are very funny, most brides or grooms don't want any mention of what went on at the bachelor party.

Don't start your best man speech with a negative comment - always start out best man speeches with a positive statement. Quotes, little sayings, stories, and humorous anecdotes are the best way to start a best man speech.

Keep the rambling to a minimum - the best man speech is the nicest when its kept short. A 3 to 5 minute speech is just the right time to give you to say everything that needs to be said.There's no reason to keep going longer as the guests will get bored and that's the only thing they will remember from your speech.
