Best Man Wedding Speech - The Process

by Vaughn V. Denina

Why should you write best man wedding speech when you can just buy it online? Here are a couple of good reasons.

For one, speeches that were made by someone else isn't exactly the type that you'll be able to relate to. Although these discuss topics relevant to wedding, they still lack elements that only you can fill. This element is the spirit of the speech. It's, in other words, generic, and that's the last thing you really want to say when you're in front of families and close friends. Second, a pre-prepared speech sounds too structured. Although these are fit for the occasion, it can't fit the audience. You may not be able to get through your audience with these speeches, making it likely for your speech to become unforgettable, if not boring. For a final speech of the occasion, yours should have the power to entertain the crowd and prepare them for the celebrations that follow.

You're best option is to produce a speech that you wrote yourself. But how can you do that?

Don't think about the wedding first. If you do, you'll feel less anxious about making your speech. So don't stress out even if you're already running behind schedule.

List then the things that should be in your speech. These can be anything from amusing anecdotes that trace as far back as the groom's childhood (if you were childhood friends) or amusing insights into the groom's prospect of the future.

There are some 'official' things that should be in your speech such as dates (when did the couple started dating), significant things that the couple experienced together, funny insights about the groom's character, and perhaps a short background description of the bride. You can also include a funny anecdote about the groom which really happened. When it comes to exs, it is perfectly fine to talk about them in your speech so long as you have the groom's consent. You can also include some short details about the groom's character as a friend, a brother or a co-worker. Maybe you could include a few side notes about how the groom would be like as a husband.

Once you've got all the details you want to include in your speech, start writing it down. Your opening sentence should come first, you can construct it with a 'thank you' to the person who spoke before you. Then thank the audience for coming. Offer a toast for the parents of the couple then thank them in behalf of the newlyweds. Proceed to the rest of your speech. Crack a joke once in a while or say an entertaining one liner to enhance the mood of the listeners as you go along. End your speech with the final toasts as well as your best wishes for the coupled.

After delivering your own best man wedding speech, give it to a friend and watch him read it. If he reacted well, you're finished with it. If not, you can have it edited.
