Best Tips For Delivering Good Best Man Speeches

by Mike Wong

Best man speeches are expected to be funny, emotional, and entertaining. If you get chosen as the best man, then coming up with an awesome speech is one of your most significant jobs. A best man speech will be remembered by everyone for a long time, good or bad. Therefor it is essential that you take the time to prepare your best man speech and make it your best work possible. For the sake of the bride and groom, don't try to scribble something down 10 minutes before you need to go up!

The intent of the best man speech is both to honor the groom, but also to compliment the bride and in general, just confirm how perfect they are for one another. Be sure to include in your best man speech some witty jokes to keep the wedding guests interested instead of dying of boredom. If you decide to make fun of the groom, make sure you don't go too far and do so in a respectful way.

Make sure that your best man speech can be understood by all the different wedding guests. Remember, the crowd can range from small children all the way up to elderly grandparents. If you have any inside jokes, save them for another time.

In your best man speech, try to include some light hearted and entertaining moments that you and the groom have shared together. Or maybe use some stories about the times you spent with them as a couple. Just make sure leave out any anecdotes that are too embarrassing! Also, it is a good idea not to ramble on too long. Usually a good best man speech will range from 5-7 minutes long.

In preparation for your best man speech, make sure you practice it in front of someone. You want this person to confirm that your jokes are appropriate and that you don't exhibit any weird mannerisms while talking. Also, if you have a hard time remembering what you are going to say, then jot down the main ideas on some cue cards so you can look at them if needed.

Best man speeches are designed to entertain the guests as well as honor the bride and groom. Don't be nervous, and try to look confident. Although speaking in front of large crowds may not be your thing, you can lessen your anxiety by coming in well prepared. Make your next best man speech one to remember!
