Heated Issue Puts Lid on Public Speaking at Local Town Meetings (WIVB Buffalo)

It's a right that all of us enjoy and many put to good use, free speech, but one local community is putting a lid on the publics comments. New rules by the Olean Common Council State that questions or comments must be submitted by email, mail or by phone prior to a board meeting, Board President Richard Smith says that some members of the public were bad mouthing board members, calling them names, in the middle of meetings, he wanted to put an end to that. The same rules now apply in the Town of Brant at board meetings, questions or comments must be submitted 5 days prior to a meeting and now Amherst is looking to change some of the public comment rules. Meetings are notoriously long in Amherst, but Supervisor Satish Mohan says, no one will be limited from speaking.
