How To Avoid Making Innapropriate Funny Wedding Speeches

by Ben Lee

Things that make us laugh, when you think about it, are abundant in life. Some of these things may include the drunken idiot, the typical run-of-the-mill dirty jokes, the slapstick humor, the comedic relief and of course, the usual dry wit including sarcastic or ironic undertones. As a general rule, most if not all of these forms of humor are generally not appropriate for funny wedding speeches.

As a result, avoid your pre-prepared funny wedding speech turning into a embarrassing wedding speech faux pas, knowing what is and what isn't acceptable is a must. Luckily a few points listed below will help you avoid the most common mistakes that people make delivering their funny wedding speeches.

1. Slapstick Humor: This person will either greatly embarrass themselves, or fall over mid-speech and hurt themselves a la Jim Carrey in many of his movies. You would do well not to include any of the above elements in your speech. Come on, there is no excuse, they are fairly self-explanatory. You really do not want to remembered for the wrong reasons, and wake in the following morning having to ask what happened because you don't remember yourself.

2. The Dirty Jokes: dirty jokes can be extremely funny in the privacy of your own home, or around the poker table. However, when you have the brides parents, the grooms boss and their most respected colleagues listening to your every word, its a good idea to avoid the potty mouth in your funny wedding speech.

3. Sarcasm or Irony: also something you should cross off the list. Additionally, don't even try to use dry wit or irony if you don't know what the result will be. Often the result you intended will be different from the result you get and people may be offended in the process. A wedding is no place to start a riot.

4. Comedic relief: Comedic relief usually comes in the form of a one liner or carefully inserted joke. Unless you are great at stand-up and know your way around a microphone, you will end up with more fake laughing than real laughing and a few glaring looks aswell.

5. Drunken antics: Weddings come in all shapes and sizes and range from the very formal to the very casual. This does not give anyone cause to become severely intoxicated and put themselves into a position where they cannot control their actions. Save the drunken behavior for the bucks night where you know it is more accepted and the norm.
