How To Be A Good Public Speaker

by Carol Cheung

Would you lose your breath, slur your words and lose your train of thought when you speak in front of several people? Many people would encounter these difficulties when they were just beginners in business. If your answer is yes to the above question, public speaking help is what you need and you will definitely appreciate it.

After having a sufficient amount of practice in public speaking, you will be confident enough to speak on stage. Instead of nervousness, you can feel the true enjoyment of public speaking. You will be so in love with public speaking that you may even request for speaking on stage and help others who fear doing it.

I began to love public speaking after I underwent a couple of incidents. I tried to go to conferences and some events where all there are presentations and workshops. I emulated how the others presented and learnt a lot of styles and techniques in presentation.

I tried to imitate their techniques when it was my turn to give a speech on stage. One very important point to note here is that you must be confident if you want to be good at giving a speech. Maintaining eye contact with the audience is crucial as well.

Years ago when I was still young in the industry, I often lost my confidence on stage and it always showed. I actually knew the material very well, but when I looked around and saw the audience, I often lost my concentration and my mind just went blank. And when I did not know what to say, I often lost my eye contact with the audience.

Doing all the above would definitely make you look unprofessional on stage.

One little trick that I learned to solve the above problem is to focus on one particular person before finishing a sentence or a thought. Using this method, my thinking would not keep wandering around unrelated events. With this concentration, I would be able to talk about my thoughts and experience better.

All the above are the public speaking help I needed. Remember to keep concentrating and have eye-contact, no matter what event it is or how many people there are.
