Interrotron Errol Morris Teleprompter
Interrotron Teleprompters in NYC In this brave new gadget a day world comes something actually useful. We just came across a new way to use teleprompters that makes for far better on camera interviews. Documentarian Errol Morris created a teleprompter-like setup in conducting interviews which he calls the Interritron Prompter .The teleprompter is rigged on the camera usually a video camera); however, instead of displaying a written script, it is used to display the image coming from a video camera trained on the questioner who is positioned just a few yards away
Consequently, the interview subject can be looking straight into the lens of the camera to observe Morris' face while talking rather than off elsewhere.
The camera videoing Morris can also be arranged with a prompter showing the subject (using the video tap output if a movie camera is used on the subject). Thus, the two talent can carry out a virtual ordinary conversation for the show. The usefulness of this invention is to allow the interviewer and interviewee to chat while looking right into the lens of the camera. Before the invention of the Interrotron Prompter both parties in the conversation needed to look into a unblinking camera lens rather than into the face of the individual in the scene.
No matter if the questioner stood right by the camera lens , the person in front of the camera almost always appeared to be looking the wrong direction.
Morriss invention is now an industry standard device found on video interview locations
The best high end video stages have a least two Interritrons . In New York The American Movie Company at 212-952-1800 (www.AmericanMovieCo.com) and Teleprompter-New York.com and Production Central , Oraculum Pictures and Ventura Productions all have these Interrotrons.
Bravo to Errol Morris for his breakthrough new invention.
