When you are giving a speech or presentation, much of the time you will need some notes so that you can remember what to talk about. If you are giving a short speech of around five minutes, you really don't need notes. If you have a longer speech or presentation, you will need some notes. If you know the topic well enough, the points on the presentation will jog your memory enough so that you can continue giving the presentation.
