Public Speaking Is Humans History And Future

by Yvonne Arena

Public speaking and it's history is thought to be as old as human existance. Hundreds of years ago or even thousands according to history books there have been public speakers. It is thought that public speaking is a huge part of our development.

It is interesting to know that public speaking has almost been handed down to us from our ancestors. In the olden days chiefs and well respected members of the community would pass down information through story telling to the younger generations.

It's thrilling to know that some historians have found evidence that the ancient Egyptians even created a sort of manual on how to be a public speaker.

Wherever you were on the planet throughout history you would of encountered public speaking.

One of the forefounders of public speaking as we know it was a man who lived in Athens in the period of 300 BC. His name was Demosthenes. His passion was public speaking yet he was sort of held back by the fact he had a speech impediment.

Legend has it that he came up with a way to fix his speech problem by placing pebbles in his mouth when he would speak. He did this for several weeks non stop and apparently he was cured. The thing that strikes me about this was that he was so driven to be a public speaker amongst the community that he wouldn't let a little thing like a speech impediment hold him back!

You may have heard that to conquer your fear you have to face your fear. Well many experts in the field of public speaking agree with also and say that the best way to get over your fear of public speaking is to just get up there and do it. When you have all those people eagerly listening to you you'll probably grow to love it.

As I'm sure you know the US has also had some wonderful speakers. Namely, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King. Both are connected to some of the most famous speeches ever. Especially Martin Luthers "I have a dream".

Throughout history there have been tons of famous speakers who's speeches will be remembered for hundreds of thousands of years to come. Winston Churchill was responsible for several great speeches.

Public speaking is something that the human race has been doing for thousands of years. A great speech can make a man a legend. Lets hope that there are many more amazing speakers and speeches to come.
