The Pleasure of Being Yourself
One of life's mysteries to ultimate happiness may not be as mysterious as what we would have thought it to be. But the reality is, there is not just one answer or one book that can answer all your question an it's as diverse at each person around the world.
Learning that the solution is a varied one is not easy from the outside world, it is easier to learn about your happiness with an honest assessment from within yourself and your own principals. One common misconception is that there is a "secret" solution to finding happiness within.
The issue is not that there is esoteric knowledge of the path to inner peace, in the possession of a select group of people, but that there are many different value systems, which mandate their own symbols of and means of achieving happiness. Usually a person in the midst of soul searching will come down to some definite conclusions and questions:
"What makes my life whole? How can I pursue what I value in a competitive, often materialistic world?
With all these pressures, am I truly living my life within my principals?" It is all too easy to blame the pressures of your surroundings when you are not following your values and are unhappy with your present position.
One who says, "I have to work all the time because money and status are important in my society," often really means, "I have bought into materialistic values but will not take responsibility for my own actions."
The search for inner happiness needs a level of acceptance and commitment in your own life; when tragic events happen that we cannot control we choose how we react to the situation, so why is it we can't control within our means our inner happiness? The responsibility for one's own happiness is also liberating on a fundamental level, for it places the power to make ourselves happy in our own hands. The path to inner happiness is not an easy road to follow; it might be a little scary at first, but persistence is your only virtue to help you block out the pressures of a popular and materialistic society, to carry you along your path to ultimate happiness.
