Introduce yourself - everyone might not know who you are if you played a backseat in the wedding preparations. The groom's family may not know who you are. By introducing yourself you let everyone know and put them at their ease when the speeches are over with and they want to talk with you.
Don't forget the welcome - of course, you'll welcome the groom to your family but don't forget to welcome his family as well. It will make them feel a part of your family even though there might be some you don't want in your family. Welcome them anyway to keep the peace with your daughter.
Use flattery - when stating how beautiful your daughter looks on her special day make is sound like the day just enhances her splendor. Sometimes fathers make is sound like she never look good before. Use sincerity and also point out how good the couple looks together.
Humorous anecdotes - use funny stories from your daughter's childhood to explain her accomplishments and achievements. How much she's grown and all she has accomplished in her life. Check with your daughter to see if it's okay with her to share these stories. Of course, you're proud of her so let her know that during your father of the bride speech.
Advice from personal experiences - sharing advice from your marriage or other marriages shows you care about your daughter's happiness and wish her well in her marriage. Plus, it just might help your daughter and the new husband with their marriage.
The ending - use this time to toast the bride and groom with your best wishes. You can use a quote or poem, even your favorite song to wish them well. Invite everyone to join in the toast to the happy couple.
